D-055 Addendum

  • Interim Requirements for above ground synthetically lined wall storage systems etc.:

Sect. 1 Introduction states:

“Companies producing unconventional oil and gas reserves in other jurisdictions have used aboveground, synthetically lined wall storage systems (aboveground water storage systems - AWSSs) in place of numerous single-walled aboveground tanks.”

ADVANTAGES ?

A

Advantages include

  1. a smaller lease footprint,
  2. less truck traffic,
  3. fewer spills and releases – because there are fewer piping and manifold systems, and
  4. fewer freezing issues in winter

Requirements

DEPENDING ON WHAT MATERIAL IS BEING STORED the following factors come into consideration:

A
  1. Capacity limits permitted
  2. Number of storage units allowed on a site
  3. Thickness of liner
  4. Composition of liner
  5. Hydraulic conductivity rating of liner
  6. Need for geotextile on ground surface
  7. Hoses and lines attaching to the storage unit
  8. Hydraulic pressures on wall system
  9. Storage duration –usually capped at one year
  10. Disposal of liners
