D-083 Flashcards
Why are we Fracturing?
Benefits include “enhanced recovery, reduced # of wells (multi-pad drilling), and reduced # ??
Used on new wells & re-entries (D-056 Applications)
- ○ Handling of disposal MUST comply with D-055 & D-058
- ○ Any FLARING MUST comply With D-?
- ○ Any Noise MUST comply With D-?

Directive-083 ~ Fracturing ?
- Purpose: sets out AER requirements for managing sub-surface integrity associated with fracturing
○ Does NOT apply to thermal wells
Operations
Requirements are intended to:
- ○ Prevent loss of well ? at subject well
- ○ Reduce likelihood of unintentional wellbore ? b/n subject and offset well
- ○ Manage well control at ? well to avoid inter-wellbore communication
- ○ Prevent adverse effects to ? aquifers
- ○ Prevent impacts to ?? and prevent ?

Directive-083 ~ Fracturing Operations
licensees must obtain AER approval if using a
barrier system other than:
○ ?-? system (see figure 1)
○ Single-barrier system (see figure 2)
Dual-barrier
Requirements to reduce wellbore communication:
○ Must have documented H F P
○ Determine fracture planning zone (FPZ) and i.d. risks
○ Must have (WCP) for each at-risk offset well
○ Detection methods, max. pressure adjustments, control plan
○ Licensees must ?? of at-risk offset wells of plans
○ Engage and develop ? plan

Directive-083 ~ Fracturing Operations
Requirements to prevent adverse effects to non-saline aquifers:
- ○ Must prepare a ?? If above or within 100 m below BGWP
If modelled vertical fracture distance X 2 is within or extends above BGWP – MUST NOT use fracture fluids that may cause adverse effects
risk assessment
Risk assessment must have:
- ○ Evaluation of potential for ?
- ○ ? of top and base of any non-saline aquifers above BGWP
- ○ ? of fracture intervals within wellbore
- ○ Modelled vertical fracture ?
- ○ Min. distance b/n fracture and ? aquifer
- ○ Documents of ? used to determine potential effects on non-saline aquifers – geo features/pathways
- ○ Mitigation measures to minimize ? of adverse effects

Directive-083 ~ Fracturing Operations
Requirements for fracturing near top of bedrock:
- Licensees fracturing operations MUST NOT cause ? ?exception: using ? as fracture fluid for CBM completions
There are some special provisions for CBM fracturing operations Sec. 8 outlines ???
MUST ? notify AER if well integrity fails
