A
The lining of the small intestine is folded with into thousands of tiny-like projections known as villi. They are rich in blood supply and very thin wall only one cell thick.

A
Each villus is covered in many microscopic microvilli to increase the surface area even more.

Active transport in the small intestine
A
As the absorption of food molecules continues, the concentration of food molecule in the blood become higher than in the gut. The rest of the molecules is then absorbed by the active transport.

Where food is mixed with digestive enzymes and bile.
