Development Flashcards
Neurulation
Ectoderm overlying the notochord begins to furrow, forming a neural grove surround by 2 neural folds.
What part of the neural furrow forms the central nervous system?
The neural tube.
Between the alar plate and the basal plate, which is sensory and which is motor?
Alar is sensory
Basal is motor
Rooting reflex
Automatic turning of the head in the direction of a stimulus that touches the cheek–such as a nipple during feeding
Primitive reflex
A reflex that diminishes with age, such as the rooting reflex
Moro reflex
Infant extends the arms, and then slowly withdraws them and cries. Usually a reaction to abrupt movements.
Babinski reflex
Toes spread apart automatically when the sole of foot is stimulated
Grasping reflex
Infant closes their fingers around an object placed in their hand.
Gross motor skill
Incorporate movement from large muscle groups and whole body motion
Fine motor skills
Involve smaller muscles such as fingers, toes and eyes. Provides more specific and delicate movement
Parallel play
Usually around 2 years children start to play alongside eachother without influencing eachothers behavior
