Cultural assimilation
Process by which an individual’s or group’s behavior and culture begin to resemble that of another group.
Can also mean groups with different cultures begin to merge into one.
A melting pot
Ethnic Enclaves
Locations (usually neighborhoods) with a high concentration of one specific ethnicity.
Multicultaralism
Communities or societies containing multiple cultures. A celebration of coexisting cultures.
A cultural mosaic
Subcultures
Groups of people within a cultures that distinguish themselves from the primary culture to which they belong.
Counterculture
The subculture group gravitates toward an identity that is at odds with the majority culture and deliberately opposes the prevailing social mores.
Ethnography
The study of cultures and customs
Material culture
Sociologists explore the meaning of objects in a given society. Focused on artifacts like artwork, jewelry, clothing, tools, etc.
Symbolic culture
Nonmaterial culture. Focuses on the ideas that represent a group of people. Encoded in mottos, songs, catchphrases, or themes in a culture.

Value vs. Belief
A value is what a person deems important in life and to which one dictates their ethical principles and standards of behavior
A belief is something that an individual accepts to be truth.
