Design And Technology- Hydraulics Flashcards
First rule
If the INPUT and OUTPUT cylinder are the exact same size (and the system has been filled with hydraulic fluid) then the input force will be equals to the output force, and the input piston travelled would be equal to the output piston travelled.
INPUT=OUTPUT
Second rule
Difference in size = difference in MA.
If the output cylinder is 2x bigger than the input cylinder then the MA of the output cylinder is 2d more than the input cylinder which means, the output force = 2x more than the input force also, the output force = 2x less than the input force.
MA=
Load(output)/effort(input)
Control mechanisms
One way valve and hydraulic Jack
One way valve
The input pushes the fluid causing the output to rise and lift the object. The value prevents fluid from flowing back so that the object stays raised.
Hydraulic Jack
Consist of two connected cylinders, big and small. When a force is applied to the smaller cylinder that creates pressure in both cylinders. Since the large cylinder has a large area, the large cylinder produces a greater force.
