Chemistry- Observations Flashcards
Potassium permanganate crystals added to a beaker of water
Beginning
Water is clear
Potassium permanganate crystals are small, purplish-black, solid and pretty
Potassium permanganate and water
Middle
Purple ‘stream’ appears in the water.
Water slowly begins to change colour and becomes a darker purple
Potassium permanganate and water
End
Water is now purple
Strip of magnesium placed in Hydrochloric acid
Beginning
HCL is clear
Magnesium ribbon is a shiny, solid, pliable metal with some black turnout in the surface
Strip of magnesium and Hydrochloric acid
Middle
HCL bubbles and gives off an opaque gas.
Test tube gets warm
Strip of magnesium and Hydrochloric acid
End
Hydrogen gas is made.
Magnesium dissolves completely.
HCL stays clear
Blowing bubbles into lime water
Beginning
Like water is clear
Blowing bubbles into lime water
Middle
Begins to turns milky white, opaque colour
Blowing bubbles into lime water
End
Completely milky white
Heating moth balls (naphthalene) in a large test tube
Beginning
Moth ball is white and solid
Heating moth balls
Middle
The moth balls melt as they are heated.
Liquid state is clear or transparent.
Heating moth balls
End
Once hit it is completely liquid and as it cools it becomes solid and white again in the bottom of the test tube.
