When do primitive reflexes disappear by?
Usually by 1st yr of life.
What can cause primitive reflexes to reemerge?
Frontal lobe lesions.
Moro reflex
Hang on for life reflex - abduct/extend arms when startled, then draw together
Rooting reflex
Movement of head toward one side if cheek or mouth is stroked - nipple seeking
Sucking reflex
Sucking response if roof of mouth is touched
Palmar reflex
Curling of fingers if palm is stroked.
Plantar reflex
Dorsiflexion of large toe and fanning of other toes w/ plantar stimulation (upgoing babinski - UMN lesion in adult)
Galant reflex
Stroke along one side of spine while newborn is face down; lateral flexion of body towards stimulated side.
