Must have cuffed ET tube in place 4x4 gauze sponge placed by trachea to prevent H2O & bacteria Place head in "draining position" Ocular lubricant to avoid corneal drying & bacteria
Protecting the tech
Gloves Eyewear Mask Oral lavage on pt, decrease aerosolization of bacteria
Dental exam
Thorough hx, general exam, min. lab data base: 1. CBC 2. Chemistry panel 3. U/A
Signs associated with oral problems
- Halitosis (bad breath)
- Eating habits change
- Pain/sensitivity
- Excess salivation
- Nasal/ocular discharge
Charting records must include
- # and type of tooth
- Tooth position
- Condition
- Inflammation
- Peridontal dz

Calculus/tartar removing forceps
Dental hoe
Dental scaler
Ultrasonic scaler – MOST EFFICIENT
Scaling
High frequency soundwaves with H2O
Little pressure
10-15 sec per tooth
