Dementia Flashcards
Donepezil/Aricept
Centrally acting reversible AChE inhibitor for alzheimer’s, Lewy body, and vascular dementia
sides are parasympathetic and vivid dreams
may improve language in autism
AChE (acetylcholine esterase) inhibition
Increased ACh in synaptic cleft leads to more cholinergic transmission and reduced alzheimers ssx
sides are parasympathetic- bradycardia, hypotension, increased urination and lacrimation, bronchoconstriction
Rivastigmine/Exelon
Centrally acting reversible AChE inhibitor for mild parkinsons or alzheimers
PO or in patch form
Galantanine/Razadyne
brain enhancer for memory used in early onset alzheimers
Acetylcholinesterase overdose
n/v
salivation
sweat
bradycardia
ATROPINE IS THE ANTIDOTE
Memantine/ Namenda
blocks NMDA glutamate receptors
inhibits Ca influx (both lead to less neuronal excitotoxicity)
non-competitive @ 5HT3 receptor antagonist
agonist @ D2
antagonist @ nicotinic
