Q

Side effects of neuroleptic drugs

A

they block d2 receptors outside of the mesolimbic pathway as well:
tremors
tardive dyskinesia
blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, increased prolactin release

Q

Chlorpromazin/thorazine

A

typical neuroleptic for psychosis, mania, schizophrenia, n&v, intractable hiccoughs

Q

Prochlorperazine/ compazine

A

typical neuroleptic for psychosis. also used with vertigo and nauseating migraines
primarily works at H1 histamine receptor sites but also antagonizes alpha adrenergic and D2
less extrapyrimidal sxs than others
better anti-emetic than others

Q

Haloperidol/Haldol

A

typical neuroleptic for psychosis, tourettes, huntingtons, and acute agitation
works at D2
must administer carefully dt excessive sedation and tardive dyskin

Lithium carbonate/ Eskalith

A

presumed to dampen transmission by Norepi and diminish response to glutamate
cleared by kidneys
very small TI
Side: wt gain, cognitive impairment, short-term memory deficit
Renal effect_> impaired concentration!!
