What does the 2020 Budget mean for armed forces mental health?
£10 million for armed forces mental health charities, and £10 million for the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to support veterans with mental health needs.
What is our policy on the naval surface fleet?
Maintain a surface fleet of at least 19 frigates and destroyers, and grow it by the 2030s.
What new warships are we building?
5 new Royal Navy Type 31 warships, built by Babcock and assembled in Rosyth, Fife. Their construction will support over 2,500 jobs across the UK. The first Type 31 warship will be on the water by 2023.
What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
A promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
What are the 2 principles of the Armed Forces Covenant?
1) No member of the Armed Forces community, including their family members, should feel disadvantaged when it comes to receiving public or commercial services
2) Special consideration should be given when required, such as to injured veterans or the bereaved.

- Supports the employment of service members’ partners
- Support employees who choose to be reservists

Report annually to Parliament on progress delivering its commitments.
What government office have we opened regarding veterans?
Office of Veteran Affairs - coordinates and holds the government to account on veterans issues.
What is out Veterans Strategy?
Part of a 10 year plan that identifies 6 key areas where support for veterans is most needed: community and relationships, employment and skills, health and wellbeing, finance and debt, housing, and contact with the law. We then implement many of those findings to give extra support to veterans and veteran families that need it most.
What have we done regarding veterans ID cards?
Introduced new veterans ID cards that make it easier for veterans to be identified and get recognition where needed.
How many veterans are not covered by existing rail cards?

What is our plan for armed forces childcare?
‘Wraparound’ childcare for armed forces families: breakfast clubs and after school clubs for children aged 4-11 to cover early starts and late finishes.
What is our plan for to support armed forces members seeking employment in the public sector?
A guaranteed job interview for veterans for any public sector role they apply for.
How will we incentivise businesses to employ veterans?
A proposed tax cut for every business that employs veterans by scrapping NI contributions for a year for every new employee who has left the armed forces.
