dogs and cats susceptible, cats more sensitive
You are going camping and pack a bunch of high % deet mosquito repellent for yourself. You want to bring your dog along but dont want him to get a bunch of mosquito bites. Can you share your deet with him?

metabolized in liver, excreted in urine
can increase dermal absorption of other products
Clinical signs of DEET toxicity
rabbits/rats - depression, excitation, ataxia, tremors, seizures, coma
Dogs/cats - hyper salivation, vomiting, hyperexcitability, tremors, ataxia, seizures, skin + MM irritations
Diagnosis of DEET toxicity
History,presentation
20ppm is diagnostic in chemical analysis
Treatment of DEET toxicity
no specific antidote
decontamination
avoid magnesium cathartic because may cause CNS depression
