What happens with VO2 max and bed rest?
The longer you are on bed rest, the lower your VO2 max. 40 loose about 40% VO2 max
What happens to HR with detraining?
resting HR goes up. WIth retraining you can get fact to previous resting HR
What happens with bed rest and plasma volume?
Lower plasma levels. Decreased resistance so blood pressure may fall
What are the two types of changes you can have with bed rest?
Peripheral or cardiac
What is Lower Lobe Atelectasis?
Diaphragm migrates higher Increased esophageal pressure Heart settles dorsally decreased lung compliance in supine MORE WORK TO EXPAND TO LUNGS
What happens to fasting blood glucose, fasting blood insulin levels, triglycerides and total cholesterol during bed rest?
All increase. Glucose changes can be a concern for diabetic patients
How much does your muscle mass decrease per day during the first 2-3 weeks of bed rest?
1.5-2% a day
What does decreased ability to exercise cause in the body?
systemic inflammation
what happens to force output during bed rest?
Decreases
What happens to bone with bed rest?
increase bone resorption and decreased bone mineral density

11.2-13.5% of muscle strength
