EGT vs. CDT vs. GGT
EGT: Good for short term alcohol ingestion, rises quickly and wanes 24-36hrs
CDT: Good for long-term. Drink heavy for 2 weeks, stays for 30 days
GGT: High sensitivity but low specificity, even moderate will stick around for a few weeks.
Most Common Alcoholic Neuro Complication (& onset)
Alcohol neuropathy: 75% of alcoholics, mixed motor/sensory, symmetrically in feet and rises
Alcoholic Dementia Notable Deficits
Greater loss in fine motor and verbal fluency than in AD
Marchiafava-Bignami Ds
Rare demyelinating ds of corpus callosum in alcoholics
Miller-Fisher Syndrome
Variant of GBS with triad of gait ataxia, areflexia, and opthalmoplegia
