Suprachiasmatic Nucleus
In hypothalamus, helps with sleep regulation
Melatonin Timing
Begins releasing in evening (~8pm), peaks in night (3-5am), then decreases during the day
Projective Test
Category of psychological tests where you present incomplete picture/information to patient and they complete it. Reveals aspects of themselves through responses
Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (what it is + presentation)
Late complication of measles infecting neurons/glia
Often in children 5-10, presents with spastic/choreoathetoid movements, seizures, behavior changes, etc
SSPE 3 Dx Tests
LP/CSF: Measles Ab
Brain Bx: Viral inclusion bodies
EEG: Periodic bursts of generalized slow-wave complexes
SSPE Tx + Prognosis
Unclear, but interventricular interferon-alpha + isoprinosine
SSPE Prognosis
Very poor, death w/in 1 year if poor response to tx
Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome (inheritance pattern, what it is, deficiency)
XLR d/o of purine/pyrimidine metabolism
Deficiency in hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase results in hyperuricemia
Lesch-Nyhan Sx (& cause)
Choreoathetosis, hyperreflexia, hypertonia, self-mutilatory behavior, behavioral disturbances
Likely from decr DA in CNS
Gaucher’s Ds (inheritance pattern, deficiency)
AR deficiency in Beta-glucosidase
Gaucher’s Sx
Hypersplenism, bone abnormalities, heme abnormalities, skin pigmentation
Schizophrenia Active-Phase Sx Time Requirements
1 month (6 mo is once prodrome/neg sx start)
