Data Sufficiency Flashcards
Split into 2 sections
1) A and D (if the answer cannot be A, we eliminate A and D); 2) B,C,E: 1st statement separately; 2nd: evaluate together
Value Sufficiency
Whether or not you have a unique value to determine the unique value of something
Yes or No
Enough information to conclusively say yes or no
Simplify
Try to simplify as much as possible
Data sufficiency, calculate the numerical value or not
No, we are not asked to calculate; we are just asked whether there is unique values or not. Carry up to the point where we are sure we could can’t prove
Two statements sufficient
Neither statement one nor statement two alone is sufficient to answer the questions, but there is a single unique value shared between both statements then both statements together are only sufficient
Strategy with data sufficiency
when solving data sufficiency, your strategy should be to try to prove that the statements are not sufficient
Type of numbers to test in data sufficiency
1) Positive integers
2) Positive Proper Fractions (fractions between 0 and 1-> value will be also between 0 and 1)
3 ) Zero
4 Negative Proper fractions (Fractional between -1 and 0)
5) Negative integers
Two statements in data sufficiency
Two statements in data sufficiency will never contradict each other -> just add more or no information
