cytoskeleton and cell surfaces Flashcards
plasmodesmata
cytoplasmic channels, lines cell walls enabling communication and transportation between cells that are stuck together
extracellular matrix
provides support for cell and regulates internal communications
tight junction
regulates water movement between epithelial layers, creates a tight bond between cells
anchoring junction
hold cells together and provides tissue with structural cohesion. stabilize the cell position, provide stability and rigidity, and support tissue integrity by holding cell sheets together
gap junction
using extracellular fluid, gap junctions allow for direct chemical communication
tubulin
kills cancerous cells and is the building block for microtubules
microtubule
to shape and support the cytoskeleton, aid in movement of cells, organelles, chromosomes (centrioles, cilia, flagella)
centrosome
provides structure for a cell while working to pull chromatids apart during cell decision, anywhere centrioles are found
centriole
active in cell division, formation of spindle fibers (no one really knows)
microfilaments
maintains cell shape and helps it divides, made of actin, moves organelles and aids in endocytosis
intermediate filaments
provide mechanical support for plasma membrane when it runs into other cells
