Cubital Fossa, Anterior Forearm, and Wrist Flashcards
name the muscles included in the first layer of the flexor muscles in the forearm
pronator teres
flexor carpi radialis
palmaris longus
flexor carpi ulnaris
name the muscle in the second layer of the flexor muscles in the forearm
flexor digitorum superficialis
name the muscles in the third layer of the flexor muscles in the forearm
flexor digitorum profundus
flexor pollicis longus
name the muscle in the fourth layer of the flexor muscles in the forearm
pronator quadratus
pronator teres
origin = from medial epicondyle of the humerus and from the head of the ulna insertion = mid shaft of the radius innervation = median nerve action = pronation of the forearm, rotates the radius on the ulna and helps flex forearm at elbow
flexor carpi radialis
goes through the slit in the flexor retinaculum
origin = medial epicondyle of the humerus insertion = 2nd and 3rd metacarpal innervation = median nerve action = flexes wrist on the radial side
palmaris longus
origin = medial epicondyle of humerus insert = into the flexor retinaculum and the palmar aponeurosis -does not go thorugh the carpal tunnel innervation = median nerve action = flexes at the wrist
flexor carpi ulnaris
origin = medial epicondyle of the humerus and also a second origin at the head of the ulna insertion = pisiform bone of the wrist innervation = ulnar nerve action = flexes wrist on the ulnar side
flexor digitorum superficialis
origin = medial epicondyle of humerus and the mid third of the radius insertion = middle phalanges of the four fingers (stacked tendons as they go through the carpal tunnel) innervation = median nerve action = flexes the digits
flexor digitorum profundus
origin = medial epicondyle of humerus and from the posterior and medial surface of the ulna
insertion = distal phalanges of the digits
-flat as the four tendons enter the carpal tunnel
innervation = ring, little fingers innervated by ulnar nerve; middle, index by anterior interosseous branch of median nerve
action = flexes the digits
flexor pollicis longus
origin = medial epicondyle of humerus and from the anterior surfce of radius and interosseous membrane
insertion - distal phalax of thumb
innervation = anterior interosseous branch of median nerve
pronator quadratus
origin = ulna insertion = radius innervation = anterior interosseous branch of median nerve action = pronates the hand
origin = from medial epicondyle of the humerus and from the head of the ulna insertion = mid shaft of the radius innervation = median nerve action = pronation of the forearm, rotates the radius on the ulna and helps flex forearm at elbow
pronator teres
origin = ulna insertion = radius innervation = anterior interosseous branch of median nerve action = pronates the hand
pronator quadratus
origin = medial epicondyle of humerus and from the anterior surface of radius and interosseous membrane
insertion - distal phalax of thumb
innervation = anterior interosseous branch of median nerve
