Cross bite Flashcards
WHen are anterior cross bites best to treat?
in the primary dentition privded there is enough overbite to retain
If there are multiple teeth in buccal cross bite what is this likely to indicate?
that there is a skeletal discrepancy
the more teeth involved the likely the input of a skeletal problem
If only one or two teeth are affected and opposing teeth need to be moved how can this be treated?
by using cross arch elastics between the affected teeth
When are you most likely to see mandibular displacement with cross bites?
when there is a unilateral x bite
What is a scissor bite?
the lower buccal cusps lie palatal to the palatal cusps of the upper teeth
How do you treat posterior x bites unilateral affecting only one tooth?
alignment into the arch
x arch elastics if opposing teeth need to be moved
When would rapid maxilliary expansion be used?
this expands the maxilla by opening the midline suture. it is more effective in the younger pateint
By how much is the screw turned in rapid maxilliary expansion
0.2mm twice/day for 2weeks
What must you ensure you do when using rapid maxillairy expansion?
over compenssate since soft tissues will cause the teeth to move back by 50%
What is a quad helix appliance?
slow expansion appliance
it is W shaped and made from 1mm SS
If there was an anterior cross bite, what would you use on a removable appliance to aid correction?
posterior bite plane
What is a cross bite ?
Discrepancy between the buccolingual relationship of the upper and lower teeth
