A

Difficulty when correcting deep over bites since in adults molars are extruded rather than intrusion of incisors but this is more prone to relapse

What is the problem with periodontal disease?

A

Needs to be stabilised
Cannot have ortho and active perio
Due to the reduced bone support as a result of periodontal disease the upper labial segment becomes proclined and this is exacerbated is posterior teehth are lost high causes more pressure to be placed on the labial segment

What is the problem with extracted teeth in adults?

A

Significant resorption of the alveolar bone in places where the tooth have been degraded and these sites are more difficult to move teeth into

A

It is difficult to bond the brackets to these teeth

What are the physiological issues facing adult orthodontics?

A

There is reduced tissue blood supply in adults and decreased cell turnover therefor tooth movement may be very slow and painful so need lighter initial forces
