Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Cranial Nerve 1
Olfactory Nerve
Special Sensory (smell)
Cranial Nerve 1Innervation
Superior epithelium of nasal cavity for smell
Multiple small fibers of olfactory bulb, bulb sits in cribriform plate
Cranial Nerve II
Optic nerve
Special sensory (vision)
Cranial Nerve II Innervation
Retina of eyeball for vision
Left & right optic nerves unite at optic chiasm on inferior aspect of the brain
Continue into brain as optic tracts
Cranial Nerve III
Oculomotor nerve
Motor-somatic & parasympathetic
Cranial Nerve III Innervation
Somatic motor to muscles in orbit, parasympathetic innervation to muscles of iris and ciliary muscles controlling lens shape
Parasympathetic ganglion-ciliary ganglion-is associated with this nerve
Cranial Nerve IV
Trochlear nerve
Motor-somatic
Cranial Nerve IV Innervation
Motor to superior oblique muscle in orbit
Small-wraps around back of midbrain and enters into dura
Cranial Nerve V1
Trigeminal nerve-ophthalmic division
Sensory-somatic
Cranial Nerve V1 Innervation
Sensation of orbit, superior nasal cavity, forehead
All branches of CN V provide sensory innervation to dura matter
Cranial Nerve V2
Trigeminal nerve-maxillary division
Sensory-somatic
Cranial Nerve V2 Innervation
Sensation of skin of face over upper jaw, upper teeth, inferior/posterior nasal cavity, palate in oral cavity
Infraorbital foramen
Cranial nerve V3 Innervation
Sensation of skin over lower jaw, side of head, lower teeth, oral cavity, anterior 2/3 of tongue. Motor to muscles of mastication, some palatal/ear muscles.
Passes inferiorly through foramen ovale into infratemporal fossa
Cranial nerve V3
Trigeminal nerve-mandibular division
Sensory-somatic
Motor-somatic
Cranial Nerve VI
Abducens nerve
Motor-somatic
