Anatomy Back Muscles Week 1 Flashcards
Origin of Trapezius Muscle
Posterior skull (Occipital), Posterior neck soft tissue, spinous processes of lower neck, and thoracic vertebrae
Trapezius Insertion
Clavicle, acromion+spine of scapula
Trapezius Innervation
Spinal accessory nerve (CN XI)
Trapezius Function
Shoulder elevation/ depression
Retracts scapula
Rotates glenoid to face superiorly (Helps us reach up)
Trapezius Notes
Different parts do different things, pay attention to fiber orientation
Latissimus Dorsi Origin
Inferior ribs, thoracolumbar fasica, spinous processes of lower thorax
Latissimus Dorsi Insertion
Intertubercular groove of humerus
Latissimus Dorsi Innervation
Thoracodorsal nerve
Latissimus Dorsi Function
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates arm at shoulder
Rhomboid Major & Minor Origin
Spinous processes of lower neck, upper thorax
Rhomboid Major & Minor Insertion
Medial border of scapula from spine to inferior angle
Rhomboid Major & Minor Function
Retract scapula and rotate glenoid to face inferiorly
Rhomboid Major & Minor Innervation
Dorsal scapular nerve
Rhomboid Major and Minor Note
Rhomboid minor is slightly more superior than Major
Levator scapulae Orgin
Posterior aspect of upper cervical transverse processes
Levator Scapulae Insertion
Medial border of scapula superior to spine of scapula
Levator Scapulae Function
Elevates scapula and rotate glenoid to face inferiorly
Iliocostalis Origin
Posterior iliac crest and sacrum, sacral and lumbar spinous process
