taste for posterior 1/3 of tongue
CN 10: Vagus
-only cranial nerve to extend beyond head and neck
-recurrent laryngeal branch innervates nearly all larynx muscles
CN 11: Accessory nerves
paralysis results in loss of shoulder shrugging ability
CN 12: Hypoglossal
swallowing and speech
