What does COSHH stand for?
A
Control of substances hazardous to health.

Substances can take many forms what are they?
A
Chemicals. products containing chemicals, fumes, dust, vapours, gases, biological agents, germs that cause disease.

What does COSHH not cover?
A
Lead or radio active substances because they have their own legislation.

Why do employers need to make a COSHH document?
A
They need to identify and assess in what way substances are hazardous to health.

What is the first step in a COSHH assessment?
A
- Identify the hazards: which substances are harmful from reading the label.

What is the second step in a COSHH assessment?
A
- Decide who might be harmed and how: how might workers be exposed. Think about the root into the body(breathed in, swallowed).

What is the first third in a COSHH assessment?
A
- Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions: is it a safe alternative? Can you change the process? Can you restrict access, check labels are right, plan storage/waste.

What are the key requirement of COSHH?
A
- All chemicals and substances must be labelled.
- Employees must have personal protective equipment.
- Regular risk assessments for chemicals/ substances.
- Staff need to be trained to use the chemicals/ substances.
- All chemicals and substances must be stored correctly.
