Produced after the pineal glad releases ACTH hormone that stimulates the adrenal glands to release a variety of hormones… primarily cortisol.

Primary functions of cortisol
A
Stimulation of gluconeogenesis. Enhances the elevation of blood glucose and inhibits peripheral uptake and oxidation of glucose by the cells.

Protein metabolism affect
A
Increases synthesis of proteins in the liver but increases breakdown of proteins in the muscle, Lymphoid tissue, fatty tissues, skin, and bone. This increases blood levels of amino acids.
