What is olecranon bursitis?
Swelling over the posterior aspect of the elbow. May be pain, erythema and warmth.
What is Charcot joint?
AKA neuropathic joint.
It describes a joint which has become badly disrupted and damaged secondary to a loss of sensation.
Commonly seen in diabetics.
How does Charcot joint present?
1) Charcot joints are typically a lot less painful than would be expected given the degree of joint disruption
2) The joint is typically swollen, red and warm
What are the risk factors for pseudogout?
1) haemochromatosis
2) hyperparathyroidism
3) low magnesium, low phosphate
4) acromegaly, Wilson’s disease
5) increasing age (main risk factor)
Xray features in pseudogout?
Chondrocalcinosis - can be seen as linear calcifications of the articular cartilage
What is psoriatic arthritis?
Psoriatic arthropathy is an inflammatory arthritis associated with psoriasis and is classed as one of the seronegative spondyloarthropathies.
What does psoriatic arthritis typically precede?
Often precedes the development of skin lesions in cutaneous psoriasis.
What are the patterns of psoriatic arthritis?
1) Symmetric polyarthritis (most common type)
2) Asymmetrical oligoarthritis
3) Sacroiliitis
4) DIP joint disease
5) Arthritis multilans
What is the most common pattern of psoriatic arthritis?
Symmetric polyarthritis
What does symmetric polyarthritis present very similarly to?
RA

1) symmetric polyarthritis
2) asymmetrical oligoarthritis: typically affects hands and feet (20-30%)
3) psoriatic skin lesions
4) nail changes: pitting, onycholysis
