controlling body temperatyre Flashcards
normal body temperature
37*C
how body temperature is controlled
thermoregulatory centre
when change is detected the brain causes different parts of body to respond
example of HOMEOSTASIS
what happens when too hot
vasodilation- blood rushes to surface
blood vessels near the skin widen increasing heat loss through radiation
sweat glands produce water salt and urea which is evaporated
body hairs lower which prevents and insulating layer of air around body
what happens when too cold
Vasoconstriction- blood vessels supplying capillaries narrow
reduces blood flow through skin and focuses blood on specific organs
shivering (muscle contract and relax which makes cells respire quicker and creates more heat from energy
body hairs rise trapping a layer of air which insulates the body
