Cerebral palsy
Group of disorders that affect ability to move/maintain posture. Palsy means weakness in muscle.
Often pre- peri- or postnatal defect, often bc of lack of oxygen. Prev 2/2.5:1000
Damage to basal ganglia, cerebellum and white matter tracts
non progressive but chronic motor disorder
Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)
Minimal cerebral palsy which causes clumsiness: delay in development. Prev is 5-10% and ratio of boys x girls is 2-5 : 1
No detectable brain damage and it persist into adulthood
Comorbidity with ADHD
Alien hand syndorme
Involuntary reflexive movements of a hand, not bothered by it, unaware
Anarchic hand syndrome
When the patient is aware of the problem. Disorder of body image, loss of agency. Lesion in the corpus callosum and the supplementary motor.
