What is a worldview?
A concept of the world held by an individual or a group
What is the “Western” world view?
Dominated by a divide between nature and culture
What is the “Indigenous” worldview?
People are embedded in the world around them. There is no divide between “nature” and culture
What is ‘caring for country’?
An active process that recognises that human intervention can be a positive influence on ecosystems if done in a respectful way
How does tropical savanna Indigenous cultural burning work?
Aim to target small areas early in the dry-season, while fuel load are low and still moist
What are the benefits of cultural burning?
- Fires can be controlled
- New growth over the next months attracts animals
- Biodiversity and ecosystem health
