Q

How does build on flood plains increase the risk of flooding?

A

There are more properties that can be flooded, and urbanisation is one of the reason the river discharge increases.

Q

How does removing meanders increase the flood risk in the U.K?

A

Although making rivers straighter puts water in the ocean quicker, meanders store lots of water. This means that they stop flash floods from happening.

Q

How does removing the upper course wetland increase the flood risk in the U.K?

A

The upper course wetland is much better for infiltration, so more water can be stored there, and it also has more vegetation, so more water is used up.
