What are some physical factors that lead to the 2007 Sheffield floods?

A

-Prolonged rain: A month’s worth of rain fell on Sheffield in one day in June, this saturated the soil. On the 24th June 100mm of rain fell in just one day. The saturated soil meant that rain had to go into the city’s drains which couldn’t cope with the rain.

  • Rivers and landscapes:
    • The city of 7 hills. These are so steep that any rain becomes surface run off instantly
    • There are two confluences in Sheffield. Between the River Rivelin and the River Loxley. And between the previous confluences and the River Don
