Q

Similarities:

A

They are both operons.
Both found in E.coli bacterial genome, and in many other bacteria.
Both have an operator region and a promoter region.
Repressors bind to operators to stop transcription of the operon.
Operons code for all of the enzymes needed in a chemical pathway

Q

Differences of the lac operon

A

Lac operon is always off unless lactose is present.
Lac is a positive feedback loop. When lac is high, it releases the enzymes that break down the lactose inside the body.
Lac operon is involved with the catabolic process of a sugar. While, the Trp operon is involved in the anabolic process of an amino acid.
Lac operon gets activated in the presence of lactose, but Trp operon gets deactivated in the presence of tryptophan.
Lac operon consists of three structural genes and a repressor gene, Trp consists of five structural genes and a repressor gene.

Q

Differences of the tryp operon

A

Tryp. operon is always on unless too much tryptophan is present.
Tryp. is a negative feedback loop. The operon codes for the components of the production of tryptophan.
