Common Brain Lesions Flashcards
Amygdala (bilateral)
Kluver-Bucy syndrome - disinhibited behavior (hyperphagia/sexuality/orality)
Frontal lobe
Disinhibition and deficits in concentration, orientation, judgment, maybe reemergence of primal reflexes/can’t do stepwise tasks
Nondominant parietal-temporal cortex
Hemispatial neglect syndrome (agnosia of contralateral side of the world)
Dominant parietal-temporal cortex (especially angular gyrus)
Agraphia, acalculia, finger agnosia, left-right disorientation - GERSTMANN SYNDROME
Basal ganglia
Regulates movement, so maybe tremor at rest, chorea, athetosis
Parkinson - hypokinesis
Huntington - hyperkinesis
Cerebellar hemisphere
INTENTION TREMOR. Limb ataxia, loss of balance - ipsilateral deficits, fall TOWARD side of the lesion
Cerebellar vermis
Truncal ataxia
Subthalamic nucleus
Contralateral hemiballismus (involuntary flailing of arms)
Hippocampus (bilateral)
Anterograde amnesia MEMENTO
Paramedian pontine reticular formation
Eyes look away from side of lesion
Frontal eye fields
Eyes look toward lesion
Superior colliculi
Paralysis of upper gaze. Perinaud’s Syndrome
