Q

give me a short April for the glanzer and cuntiz case study in 1966

A

aim: to test the hypothesis that there are two distinct storage mechanisms the STM store and the LTM store - testing the serial positioning effect (primacy and recency effect).
procedure:
*participants were asked to memorize a list of words then recall them.
- 2 conditions in this study
- Condition 1 - 240 army enlisted men were presented with a list of 20 words each one-syllable noun. Then the participants were allowed to free-recall for two minutes.
- Condition 2 - participants were given the same list of 20 words but were given a delay of 30 seconds in the middle of the list. They were asked to count backwards from a given number during the delay.
Results for the 1st condition:
- participants were better at remembering words at the beginning (primacy effect) of the list and at the end (recency effect) of the list.
Results for the 2nd condition:
participants were successful at recalling the words at the start (primary effect preserved) of the list but not at the end (recency effect disappeared)

Q

give me 2 advantages and limitations of this study.

A

+ has evidence to support that the primacy and recency effect are real
+ the model is a great base for research
- levels of processing challenges this (shows that the deeper we process shit the longer It stays)
- no effect of emotion on memory
over simplified.
