histology would show glomerular tufts with secondary tubulointerstitial changes
Usually diffuse
Urine dipstick
Urine protein quantification (measure by 24 hr urine sample or by protein creatinine ratio)
Pyelonephritis?
Urinalysis (urine often cloudly with offensive smell)
Urine dipstick - send for culture
Microscopy of urine will show pyuria
Inflammatory markers raised

US and contrast CT

oncocytoma?
central scar on CT
Renal stones?
BP low
Urinalysis
Non contrast CT
Torsion of spermatic cord?
Doppler US
Epididymitis?
dopper
Send urine for culture + chlamydia PCR
Fournier’s
plain X ray or US to confirm gas in tissues
Emphysematous pyelonephritis?
X ray to show gas
CT to define extent
Perinephric abscess?
High WCC, high serum creatinine, pyuria
Do CT
Kidney trauma
Do CT with contrast if drank haematuria, shock, penatrating injury
Bladder injury?
CT cystoscopy
Flame shaped collection of contrast in pelvis
