This is a necrotizing inflammatory disease of the colon with formation of a membrane like collection of exudate overlying a degenerating mucosa.

This condition occurs during or after irradiation, where the mucosa fails to regenerate and there is friability hyperemia and edema.

In slow bleeds or for pt’s with recurrent bleeding who are otherwise normal.
