what are the opportunity of the interview
-introduce yourself

what is the purpose of the client interview
gather info for the main purpose of promoting health and preventing illnesses
the client must believe that you are collecting info that is being used in their best interest

1)pre-interaction-come prepared
2) introductory
3) working place
4) termination phase
explain pre-interaction phase
getting organized, collect relevant data, decide what will be asked, know patient informations, create favorable environment
environment: working phase, free of distraction and comfortable for pt, noise level, remove items
explain introductory
introduce yourself, address the patient using their surname, provide an approximate time frame, describe purpose of interview, discuss confidentiality, spend a few mins getting acquainted
explain working phase
gather info, use learned communication skills, stay focused/organize your questions/take your time to summarize, always let patient know they will see you next time
what to do with physical appearance
professional dress
clean shoes
clean and neat hair
no heavy makeup
no perfum
hygiene !
no piercings and tattoos showing
what are considerations we need to keep in mind when interviewing the older adult
may be dealing w loss, anger. May be dealing w multiple diagnoses, may be dealing with physical limitation, they have more of a life story (interview may take longer)
describe the voice
tone of voice, rate of speech, volume of speech, using pauses appropriately
describe touch
influenced by personal, cultural and social and religious values. you need to have a sense of how the client will interpret the use of touch
