Environmental influence
Open skills - skills that are affected by the environment e.g receiving a pass in football.
Closed skills - skills that are not affected by the environment e.g shot putt.
Pacing
Externally paced skills - environment controls the timing of skills e.g receiving a pass in football.
Self paced skills - performer controls timing of skills e.g free throw
Organisational
Low organisational skills - skills that can be broken into subroutines e.g triple jump.
High organisation skills - skills that cannot be broken down into subroutines e.g golf swing
Difficulty
Simple skills - skills that have low levels of decision making e.g sprinting
Complex skills - skills that have high levels of decision making e.g pass in football
Muscular involvement
Fine skills - skills that use small intricate muscle movements e.g rifle shooting
Gross skills - skills that use large muscle movements e.g shot putt
Continuity continuum
Discrete - clear beginning and end e.g pass in football
Serial - several subroutines joined together e.g triple jump
Continuous - no clear beginning and end e.g marathon running / cycling
