What are the roles of the european commission?

explain the organization of the European Commission
- 27 commissions (each member has one)
- the commission president is equal and needs to act completely independently of any gov. president is chosen by the government of member states and 7 assistants (always from diff countries)
- commission is divided into 33 directorates-generaals (DGs) which is headed by director-generals
- staff working for the European commission are part of the European civil service (currently 32 000 permanent mostly working on translation)
