Circulating Water Flashcards

1
Q

Which Circ Water pump has the highest full load amp rating? Why?

A

2B (full load amp rating of 225 amps vs 208 amps that the other CW pumps have. This due to CW pmp 2B having a 7000HP motor vs. the 5000HP motors on the rest of the CW pumps).

Q

What interlocks are associated with the water box outlet valves?

A

The “water box full permissive” must be met to open the outlet valves (pressure switch upstream of the valve), and the valve must be open to start CW pumps in same CW loop.

Q

What interlock can be bypassed from B07?

A

The CW start interlock associated with respective waterbox outlet valve being open can be bypassed with a push button on B07. However there is no procedural guidance to use this.

Q

Where can PW return be aligned?

A

Normally PW return is aligned to the CW return to the cooling towers, but can be alternately aligned to only the #2 CW tower.

A

The remaining CW pumps are all running with discharge valves 100% open, and CWN-HV-11 is still open.

Unit 1 is in Mode 3 preparing for reactor startup.
CWN-HV-11 is closed. All Circulating Water Pump discharge isolation valves are closed, and all pumps are off. The CW canal is filled to 22.5 feet.
The CO takes CWN-HS-1A for CWN-P01A to START. What is the expected response of the pump and its discharge valve CWN-UV-5?
A. Pump starts, and then the discharge valve opens to 100%
B. Pump starts, and then the discharge valve opens to 44%
C. Discharge valve opens to 100%, and then the pump starts
D. Discharge valve opens to 44%, and then the pump starts

16
Q

How many CW pumps can you run with one Cooling Tower isolated? With two Cooling Towers isolated?

A

No more than 2 CW pumps with one tower isolated, and no more than 1 CW pump with two towers isolated.

17
Q

Discuss electrical plant limitations when starting a CW pump.

A
  • Starting a CW pump with DGs from any unit paralleled to the same S/U Transformer may result in damage to the DGs.
  • Starting a CW pump while any PK battery is disconnected from its respective bus may result in an interruption of power to a PN distribution panel. The drop in Voltage to the NAN-S01/S02 bus, due to the pump start, may cause the inverter supplying the PN D-panel to shutdown due to low charger output voltage.
18
Q

Cooling Tower #1 fan CWN-A01C has tripped on high vibration.
This is indicated by which of the following?
A. Bright Green light on the STOP pushbutton for CWN-A01C on B07
B. Bright Green light on the breaker for CWN-A01C
C. Blue light on the STOP pushbutton for CWN-A01C on B07

Q

Cooling Tower #3 fan CWN-A03F has tripped on high vibration.
The condition that caused the trip has not been fixed.
Which of the following statements is true?
A. The trip will reset if the fan is started from the control room. If started, the fan will trip after thirty seconds.
B. The trip will reset if the fan is started from the control room. If started, the fan will trip immediately.
C. The trip must be reset locally at the breaker. If started, the fan will trip after thirty seconds.
D. The trip must be reset locally at the breaker. If started, the fan will trip immediately.

20
Q

What does the push button CIRCULATING WTR PUMP A EMERGENCY TRIP do and where is it located?

A

Each pump is provided with a pushbutton on B07 and at the switchgear that, when pressed, will trip the associated pump’s circuit breaker and send a close signal to its discharge valve. This feature bypasses the valve logic and is used when the pump is required to be tripped immediately.

21
Q

The jog control switches are __(1)__ during CW pump/valve shutdown sequencing but __(2)__ interrupt the normal opening sequence if placed in the __(3)__ position

A

(1) ineffective
(2) WILL
(3) JOG CLOSE
