Circularoty System Flashcards
Function of the circulatory system
The circulatory system is responsible for transporting all of these substances around the body
Structure of circulatory system
The heart blood and blood vessels
What do red blood cells do
Responsible for delivering oxygen to other cells in the body
What’s another name for red blood cells
Erythrocytes
What do white blood cells do
They are apart of the immune system that protects you from pathogens
What are the five main types of white blood cells
Neutrophils
Eosinophils
Basophils
Monocytes
Lymphocytes
What does neutrophils do
Can ingest and destroy pathogens such as bacteria and viruses
What does eosinophils do
Can also attack pathogens including larger ones such as parasitic worms
What does basophils do
The least common white blood cells. Takes parts in allergies
What does monocytes do
Clean up dead cells, phagocytosis of pathogens and identifying invaders to lymphocytes
What does a lymphocytes do
Adaptive immune system, responsible for creating antibodies for specific foreign bodies
What are platelets
Platelets are responsible for the formation of blood clots.
Function of plasma
Transports nutrients, waste products, water, enzymes and hormones around the body
Function of blood vessels
Blood is transported around the body In blood vessels
Arteries
Artistes take blood away from the heart.
