Anatomy Of Brain Flashcards
Three parts of brain
Hind brain
Forebrain
Midbrain
Hind brain what it does
Oldest part of the brain. Located next to the spinal cord, connects the spinal cord to the brain
Medulla (hindbrain)
The medulla is connected to the spinal cord and is responsible for maintaining autonomic functions.
Medulla functions (hindbrain)
Cerebellum- area of brain that is associated with coordination, balance and movement. The cerebellum allows animals to maintain balance without having to constantly think about it. Locomotion
Pons- respristation, bridge in Latin” bridge along which signals can travel to and from the hindbrain to the rest of the brain
Function of hindbrain
Controlling heart rate
Blood pressure and breathing
Mid brain
Reticlaur formation, Neroun receptors
Structure ^
•Limbic system - survival behaviour
Feeding reproduction
Parental care
Fight v flight
Emontial responses
•Hippocampus- memory center
•Amyglanda- emotional response
Function— transmission bridge between hind and forebrain
Response to external stimulus
Alertness / sleep wake cycle
Structure gray matter
Loobon nureons
White matter- —100,000 miles of blood vessels
Function- control center for all life processes, creativity, language and emotions
Fore brain
Largest part and envoled of the 3 developed sections:
Thymlus
Hypothamlus
Verbal cortex
Limbic system
•anterior of the brain
Fore brain pt2
Key functions- processing information
Voluntarily motor. Activity, sensory interpretation.
Cerebrum- makes up 85% of the brain
Function of cerebrum- thinking, planning, reasoning and language processing
Cerbal cortex (forebrain)
The outer layer that surrounds the cerebrum.
Function- information processing
Problem solving
Sensory processing
Thamlus function- relay motor and sensory signals to the cerbal cortex
Hypothamlus (hindbrain)
Major control center of autonomic moter system.
Responsible for number of bodily functions such as temperature, heart rate and level of hunger.
Regularly system- blood pressure, body temperature and homeostasis
