Cilia Flashcards
What are microvilli?
finger-like projections of the apical cell membrane supported by cross-linked actin bundles. They are motile and increase the surface area of absorption.
Where are microvilli found?
intestinal epithelium and renal tubules.
What kind of cytoskeleton molecule make up microvilli?
actin
What is at the distal end of the actin filament core of microvilli?
formin
What does formin do?
regulates the assembly of the actin filaments at the barbed ends.
What is a brush border?
a group of closely packed microvilli at the apical domain of intestinal columnar epithelial cells.
What do cili consist of?
microtubules (an alpha and beta segment)
How are the microtubules in cilia arranged?
In a circular pattern ( 9 + 2).
