Aseptic technique
the practice/procedures that help reduce the risk for infection.
Medical asepsis
Procedures that break the chain of infection that are used on a routine bases whether or not an infection is diagnosed
Surgical asepsis
sterile technique used to prevent contamination, isolate an operative area, and maintains a sterile field for surgery.
What risk factors pose threats to a person’s safety?
lifestyle, impaired mobility, sensory or communication impairment, lack of safety awareness
What are the three types of accidents that occur in health care facilities?
Patient-inherent accidents (patient fault)

What factors need to be evaluated when a patient is in restraints?
-Signs of injury every 15 min: check circulation, vital signs, range of motion, physical and psychological status, and readiness for discontinuation.
-Needs for toiling, nutrition and fluids, hygiene, and elimination.
-Release from restraints at least every 2 hours
evaluate for any complications of immobility
-RN trained according to CMS must evaluate patient within 1 or 4 hours
-HCP must see and assess patient after 24 hours
-Correct position of tubes and catheters
-patients behavior and reaction to restraints
