Reasons for and aims of project
- river has flowed through Seoul since 1300s but was covered up in 1960’s
- poor air quality meant that the government uncovered the river
- aim to improve air quality, urban drainage, reduce traffic and increase number commuting on foot

- riverbanks vegetated as part of the wider plan to create a ‘Seoul forest’
- created a ‘green corridor’ for wildlife
- created a space for events to engage community in projects
- created a constant flow of water through the city
