Chemical Waste System Flashcards
What 3 systems makeup the Chem waste system (CM)?
Rad chem waste from chem lab and decon stations
Cooling water waste from aux and radwaste building for reuse or disposal (CW HUT)
Condensate polisher regen waste that collects and neutralizes the potentially radioactive waste and goes to either LRS or CW
What sub system is gravity collection system?
Rad waste
Where does the Rad chem waste collect its drains from? where do the drains go from there?
Decon room
cold lab
hot lab
sample hood
The drains go to the chem drain tanks and the chem drain pumps take suction from there and discharge to the LR holdup tanks
How many cooling water hold up pumps are there and what are their capacity?
Two 100% capacity pumps
Where is the water from the cooling water hold up tanks pumped to?
Chem waste neut tanks
(There are branch lines provided to divert pump discharge to EW surge tanks or to NC surge tanks)
What is the max normal drainage to the CW HUT and what is the maximum abnormal?
Normal 10 gal a day
Abnormal 1500 gal a day
The condensate polishing demineralizer waste sub system consists of what components?
Two sumps and each with two 100% capacity pumps
Two chem waste neut tanks and 2 neutralizer transfer pumps
The condensate polisher regeneration waste can be divided into what two types?
High and low TDS
The low TDS results from what 2 operations?
Final rinsing of the regenerated resin to removal all traces of acid or caustic
Overflow from the resin cleaning operation that removes particulates from the condensate polisher resins
Where is the high and low TDS sumps pumped to?
High to the chem waste neut tank
Low to CW return line but can be sent to low TDS holdup tanks or to the chem waste neut tanks
What else can the neutralizer tanks receive?
CW HUT or condenser area sumps if there is secondary plant contamination
What is the capacity of the CW HUT? Where is it located?
5000 gallons
40’ of the aux building
What is the max useable capacity of the condensate polishing demin sumps?
2600 gallons
How many penetrations are there into the high TDS sump?
2 - one 4 inch line for equipment floor drains and one 6 inch ling for regen waste
What is the capacity of the chem waste neut tanks?
37000 gallons each
What is the interlock associated with the holdup tank pump controls and level switch LSL-20?
Funtions to shutoff the pumps in the event of a low level in the tank
What are the level alarms associated with the EW rooms level controller?
What power all the CM pumps?
NH
What can I expect to happen if a “loss of echo” condition occurs in the CWNT?
The processor is programmed to bring in the tank high level alarm and open the pump running circuit so that the CWNT pump will stop or cannot be started
What is the normal alignment of the CD high TDS sump and B/D high and low TDS sump?
Discharges to the in-service CWNT
How full do we all the CW HUT to get before we pump it down?
About 85% level
What is the adverse effect if the radioactive drain system fails?
Chemistry sampling will not be possible
What is the adverse effect if the Cooling water waste system fails?
The level in the EW rooms could get high enough to make the system INOP
What are the level alarms associated with the EW rooms level control?
Alarm in the control room for a high level and if level is 9 inches from the bottom a hi-hi will initiate
What is the adverse effect if the condensate demin waste system fails?
The ability to regen could be lost and affect steam generator chemistry
