The intellectual reflection on the forces of language in human relations
Ogden’s and Richard’s Semantic Triangle
Outlines the relationship between the three elements of meaning:
1. Symbols (words or images),
2. Thoughts (the ideas we have about symbols)
3. Referents (the objects referred to by symbols).
Context of Semantic Triangle
- Symbols are not the objects they represent, and meaning is created in people
- Direct relationship between symbol and the thought
- Direct relationship between the referent and the thought.
- Indirect relationship between object and the symbol
