Chapter 8 - Photosythesis Flashcards
What is an ATP?
Adenosine Triphosphate;
It is a charged energy molecule.
It has a nitrogen base and 3 phosphate ions.
What is an ADP?
Adenosine Diphosphate;
It is an uncharged energy molecule.
It has a nitrogen base and 2 phosphate ions. If it gets another phosphate ion, it will become an ATP.
What is the photosynthesis equation?
6O₂ + 6H₂O + “Light Energy” = C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂
or
6Oxygen + 6Water + “Light Energy” = 1Glucose + 6 Oxygen
What are pigments? Give the example of a human pigment.
Pigments absorb different wavelengths of light (different colors). Eg. melanin is in human skin.
What is the pigment in plants, and what is its purpose?
Chlorophyll is the pigment in plants. It serves the purpose of absorbing the sunlight.
