Q

what are the 5 reasons that the lungs are well suited to their gas exchange function

A
  • The alveoli give the lungs a huge internal surface area (large amounts exchanged
  • each alveolus is well supplied with blood vessels so that as much blood as possible is close to the air in the alveolus (maintains different concentration)
  • thin wall
  • deep in body to prevent evaporation of fluid that cover respiratory surfaces
  • lung volume can be changed by movements of the respiratory surfaces
